For the
Second half of my Major Project I wanted to concentrate on using the skills I
have already developed on the course in making and interoperating a designer’s
vision for a costume.
This also
involved working with puppetry and costume props, which is an area I am
interested but have never done before.
For this
project I wanted to focus on developing not just my making skills but also more
importantly my ability to be creative and imaginative with the interpretation
of the design provided. Also to be able to judge when things are impractical
and come up with a solution, which will please the designer and the production
company.
For this
project I was able to do some research on previous work from other costume
makers on the construction. However the most part of this project involved
trial and error with self-learning on how the structure would work and move
together. A pattern was used for some of the costume but most of it was made on
a mannequin again visually judging where changes should be made.
As the
costume was to be created from two different designs put together it became
easy for the designer to make changes throughout the whole process of making
this costume. So it became increasingly difficult for me to judge the time
frame and budget for this costume. Also trying to interoperate what a designer
has in their head compared to a design they have made is very difficult for me.

Textile manipulation
Consideration
I will need to
look at marbling and spraying lace for a lot of the fabrics which I have never
done before so I will need to experiment with how to do this for each type of
fabric used as I don’t know how well each one will take the effect.
I will also need
to create a weathered and polluted look.
Embelishments
will also need to be added to a lot of the costume.
-->
A lot of the
materials will need to be very light weight for most of the costume as they
will be layered up. Also if I can get hold of transparent materials for the
tail this will help with the skeleton like appearance that is shown on the
design.
The trousers
will need to be made out of a bouncy, light weight material.
